Places where certain events taken place or used for particular purpose in the past have various 
semantic associations. The same holds true of PUs which contain such place names. Tyburn was a 
manor in Middlesex County and it was a main execution site of criminals from 1196 to 1783 in London. 
The meaning of PUs with this place name are connected to its former function. Tyburn blossom – 
young offender; to dance the Tyburn jig – to be hang in gallows; King of Tyburn – executioner; Tyburn 
tree - gallows. 
Fiddle while Rome burns - be concerned with relatively trivial matters while ignoring the serious 
or disastrous events going on around you. This phrase comes from the behaviour of the Roman
emperor Nero during the great fire that destroyed much of Rome in AD 64 [5,104]. Roman holiday 
comes from the battle of gladiators in history and corresponds the meaning of uzbek idiom кимга 
аза кимга тўй. 
In conclusion, anthroponyms and toponyms have led to the formation of specific stereotypes, 
symbols and views over the centuries. When they come as part of PUs national-cultural, socio-
political and historical associations become an integral part of phraseological meaning. Connotation 
of the PUs is determined by positive or negative meaning of anthroponyms and toponyms in the 
current language. Historical figures, events, place names and nation’s attitude towards them play vital 
role in the formation of connotative meaning.
