Merian Gold Mining Project – Paramaribo, Suriname
Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. The Newmont Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Newmont’s ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders. The construction phase of the Merian project has commenced in August 2014, and the mining and milling operations is scheduled to start in late 2016.

Security Operations Superintendent (#17012006)
The Security Operations Superintendent is responsible for supervising the protection of all employees and assets through the effective and efficient use of human resources, physical and electronic equipment. Eliminate or minimize any security and safety hazards typically associated with mining a precious metal and act as Security Manager during the absence of the latter.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
-
Apply the best practices of industrial security to the protection of Company personnel, dependents, assets, operations, processes and product.

Organize, maintain and supervise security for Merian’s mine site, man camps, and production facilities. Ensure the optimum safety of all employees and equipment.

Implement, monitor and supervise a management plan for effective and efficient security.

Supervise all security elements of critical production processes to include production, sampling, storage and shipment.

Ensure that the manpower and related resources are sufficient to implement the security management plan.

Ensure the control of entry and exit of people and materials.
-
Efficient use of physical and electronic security.

Train and develop security personnel to ensure continuous performance improvement.

Ensure effective safety of hazardous materials including weapons, explosives and related materials on site.

Execute departmental tasks and responsibilities in situations of crisis and emergency , including union demonstrations
-
Ensure connections, communication and mutual support with the police, OGS and the Military.

Be knowledgeable of ISO 14001 safety standards; ensure departmental compliance with these standards and all related tasks.

Carry out corrective actions to address issues identified in the annual external safety audit.

Support the Security department Manager to optimize the departmental budget.

Ensure the department’s compliance with the requirement of Government of Suriname’s Agencies, Newmont’s lending institutions, shareholders’ interests, environmental health and safety legislation and company regulations.

Stand in as acting Security Manger during absence of the Security Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

Walk on rough, uneven, inclined, wet terrain, and climb stairs.

Wear personal protective equipment including hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, earplugs, gloves, or any other equipment to perform duties safely as required by the health and safety plan.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years’ experience in mining operations.

Experience in Occupational Health & Safety Systems Management.
-
Knowledge with respect to functioning JH&SC’s.
-
Strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to plan and schedule activities.
-
Work well in a team atmosphere.
-
Must be very flexible and willing to adapt to workplace requirements.
