2. Globally Smooth Interpolation Using Gregory Patches Over Irregular Meshes. June 2003International Journal of Shape Modeling 9(1):21-39. Kohei Murotani
Abstract:
This paper presents a new method for surface interpolation that can minimize undesired undulation. The goal of this research is to construct a surface 1) passing through all vertices of irregular meshes, 2) with G 1 -continuity and 3) with the minimum square-sum of the principal curvatures κ 1 2 +κ 2 2 over the surface. In order to construct surfaces with these three characteristics, we construct the quadrilateral mesh by subdividing the original irregular mesh with Catmull-Clark subdivision rule, cover it with Gregory patches, achieve continuity between patches, and minimize the curvature to fix the degres of freedom still remaining in the control net. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by computational experiments.
