Cotton. Some plants give us very useful things. The cotton plant is one of them. It grows in all warm countries. It has dark green leaves and yellow or pink blossoms. There is wide down around seeds. We call it cotton. When the seeds are ripe, the pod in which they try opens and the cotton comes out. It is very soft. The cotton is picked from the pod and sent to a mill. There people make it into cloth and many other useful things.

Wheat. Wheat grows in the field. When wheat springs out of the ground it looks like grass. It wants rain and warm sunshine to help it grow and get ripe. When wheat is yellow it is ripe. Then men come and cut it down. Men carry the seed to a mill and there they are made flour.
