RIMERSBURG ROD & GUN CLUB c:\users\amity_000\pictures\fishing.jpg

=========================================================================================================

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT

2014 has come and gone already and it was another great year. This is your President, Ron Kemery, I want to wish all members and their families a blessed 2015. As the year went on, we had a lot of projects that were successful and we had a lot of fun doing them. We have put a new roof on the club house, pavilion and garage, installed new lights inside the club house, rebuilt our rifle range backstops with a new flag pole for there also and finally, we started to clear and move dirt for our new pistol range; as 2015 is upon us we hope to do more. I also want to thank the members and non-members for all the help and donations and if I do forgot to mention your name, please accept my apology. I want to send out special thanks to Denny Mills, Bob Amity, Cheryl Amity, Bryan Baker, Jonathan Best, Steve Burford, Levi Guntrum, Jeannie Guntrum, John Harris, Bob Shook, Bob Slagle, Brian Slagle, Steve Stitt, Kenna Tascarella, Harry Traux, Darrell Bowers, Tom Wilson, Sam Pagliari, Jerry Harris, Steve Wyant, Sarah Kemery and Tammy Kemery. Thanks.

Ron
2014 is behind us and 2015 is looking bright!
2015 CHANGES AND SCHEDULED EVENTS:

Officers for 2015 are: President: Ron Kemery, Vice President: Bob Amity, Treasurer: Steve Wyant, Secretary: Cheryl Amity, Delegate: John Ferringer and Alternate Delegate: Dave Mackinlay.

Each of you received a survey in August about club dues and asking more members to get involved in maintaining the club. Based on the majority of the responses received and a vote at the September 2014 meeting, dues have been increased to $25.00 for New Members and $20.00 for Renewing Members effective with the 2015 renewal. There is no increase in dues for Junior Members, Lifetime Members or Law Enforcement Members at this time.

NOTE: To accommodate the initial notice of increase in dues, for 2015 only, dues for renewing members will be accepted through March 10, 2015. Members paying dues after 3/10/15 will be charged the $5.00 late fee according to the Club By-laws.
The applications for the scholarship awards were revised to clarifying the eligibility requirements. The revised application for a member or member’s child not attending Union High School is currently available on the website. The revised application for Union High School graduates will be available at the school.
Basic AR-15 Class – This class will provide an overview of the AR-15 5.56mm gas impingement weapon system; including disassembly, reassembly, maintenance & lubrication and trouble shooting. The cost is $5.00, 20 seats are available for this class on January 30, 2015. Sign up at Sport Shack (East Brady).
Youth Air Gun Class – Students age 8 through 12 will learn Olympic position shooting in 4 class sessions. Class is limited to 8 students, sign-up begins January 6, 2015 at Sport Shack (East Brady). See the calendar for additional date information.
2015 Fish 4 Fun Day – This event is for children up to 12 years of age and will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm Pre-registration is not required.
A permanent metal pavilion will be installed near the pond in 2015. This will provide a more secure place for members assisting with Fish 4 Fun Day events as well as giving anyone renting our Club additional seating in the shade.
Bench Rest Matches (presented by Rimersburg Rifle Corps) – Matches will be limited to 40 participants shooting 500 yards, 300 yards and 100 yards. The cost is $10.00 per participant. This event will be held five (5) times in 2015, sign-up is at Myers Tire (Rimersburg). Contact Sport Shack 724-526-5667 or Myers Tire 824-473-3600 if you have questions. See the calendar for additional date information.
2015 Big Buck Contest – Deer may be brought to the Club house for weigh-in beginning November 30, 2015 through December 12, 2015.
If you’ve been on the range in the last few months, you’ve noticed a lot of dirt being moved around. To satisfy the growing demands of our membership, a modern outdoor law enforcement grade pistol range is being added and is expected to be completed in 2016. $1000 received from Clarion County Federation of Sportsman's Club assisted in getting the project started.
2014 UPDATES AND EVENTS:

The 2014 Appreciation Dinner was held on January 26th. Forty eight people attended the event. The choice for the Volunteer of the Year award was a difficult one in 2014, so difficult it had to be awarded to two recipients, Tammy Kemery and Cheryl Amity. These ladies do a lot of the ‘behind the scenes’ work like maintaining the website, responding to email, computerizing the membership records, maintaining various club reports, printing mailing labels, etc. in addition to helping with Club events and serving on Committees. Congratulations to both of you!

Members attending the monthly meetings voted to have the telephone removed from the clubhouse in February. If you have questions regarding the Club, they may be directed to: Steve Wyant (Hall Rental Only) at 814-473-3279 or Ron Kemery (All other questions) at 724-526-3596.
Meeting attendees also decided to have the land timbered in 2014; a contract was signed with Hickory Hill Hardwoods. Timbering began in February and work was completed at the end of March. Monies from this project have been earmarked for future use.

The Club sponsored a new event in March, an indoor Youth Air Gun Shoot for kids. Ten kids between the ages of 6 and 12 participated in this fun learning event the four Thursdays in March. Participants learned Olympic position shooting and safe gun handling. Thanks to New Bethlehem Law Enforcement for assisting in presentation of awards to the participants.

23 students participated in the 2014 Hunter-Trapper Education course on April 8th and 10th, with all participants passing.
The sale of calendar raffle tickets was not the only source of income used to help fund the Fish 4 Fun Day in 2014. Jeanne Guntrum arranged a bingo that was held at the Emlenton Bingo Hall that raised additional funds for the Fish 4 Fun. All of the proceeds from the bingo were used to buy additional prizes for the kids who came to fish. Every one of the 83 kids that attended went home with a new fishing pole as well as several other goodies. Five of the six tag fish were caught. Thanks to the efforts of the members who sold the calendar raffle tickets, we were able to give the kids a free drink, hot dog and chips again this year. Once again, the ladies of the club did not disappoint with tables full of treats for sale at the event. Monies made from donations for food by adults and purchase of treats will go towards the 2015 Fish 4 Fun Day. Hats off to all of the members that made this day a special one for the kids and to Sports Shack and Steiner’s Outdoors & More, for their donations and helping with all of the prizes. The kids look forward to this event every year. The winners this year were Jaylynn Nugent and Jaden Nugent.

Youth Field Day was held on July 26th at Camp Kaufmann. Thanks to our fine Chefs, 435 youth snacked on a variety of specially prepared game and poultry cuisine. As always, the booth was a huge hit.

Five Bench Rest Matches were held at our club by the Rimersburg Rifle Corp in 2014. An average of 23 shooters participated in each shoot. The 2014 winners were Kenna Tascarella with 342 points in the factory class and Jeff Raybuck with 293 points in the custom class. A maximum of 400 points is available in either class. Congratulation to both shooters!

Beau Rankin and Page Whitmer were each presented with a $1000 scholarship by Ron Kemery at the Awards Ceremony held at Union High School. The annual sale of the calendar raffle tickets make these scholarships possible. Two scholarships are awarded annually; one to a graduating senior of Union High School and one to a member or member’s child that is planning on furthering their education. If there are no eligible applications received from members or member’s children, two Union High School graduates will be awarded scholarships. Applications are available at Union High School for graduating seniors or at www.rimersburgrodandgunclub.com for members/member’s children.

71 new members joined the club in 2014. At the close of 2014, our active membership was 370, with 24 Junior Members, 328 Adult (Regular) Members, 2 Lifetime Members and 16 Law Enforcement Members.
All of those old lights with the covers that were near falling and broken inside the club house have been replaced by new bright T8 lights; it’s almost as bright inside the club as it is outside in the sun shine. Much thanks to the members that made that happen! As of September, a new brown steel roof was installed on the club house, pavilion and garage.

All of the backstop frames at the rifle range were replaced and a flag post was installed at the 300 and 500 range to help determine the direction of the wind. One of the rifle range benches was lowered to allow kids to shoot, it’s working out great!

2014 was a great year for our 56th annual Big Buck Contest! A new classification was added to the contest, Heaviest Youth Buck, for kids up to age 16, with the winner receiving a Ruger American 243 Youth rifle. Tickets were sold by members and some businesses around the area. 3,167 tickets were sold this year. 170 deer were brought in for weighing, of which 45 were in the Youth category. Tim Schnur of Butler was the winner of this year’s contest bagging a 182 pound buck. Luke Schons of Templeton was the first time winner in the Youth category with a 158 pound buck.

.

Contest winners are listed below. Congratulations to all of the winners and participants! Much thanks to everyone that sold and purchased tickets or by helping with the contest. All of you helped make it successful.
