Aim of study subject –	To introduce and make applicable the methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis in the research process.
Tasks of study program –	To apply different methods of case studies to offer new insights for political science, international relations and for Latvian political situation. Through dealing with the methods of quantitative analysis to learn students to independently process quantitative data.
Content of study subject –	Epistemology. Positivism and the realistic approach. The causal simulation. The typological theory in case studies. Statistics and the formal simulation. Case studies and macro comparison.in comparative politics. Statistics and political science. Separation of probabilities. Methods of processing of quantitative data. Data’s varification. Content analysis. The analysis of correlation and regression.

Aim of study subject –	To arrive to the understanding of the ambivalence of foreign policy of the Russsian Federation and to define specific features of the foreign policy in the context of the EU-Russia relations.
Tasks of study program –	To analyze and understand the political, historical and mental features of the creation of the Russian Federation - the juridical successor, USSR. To analyze the motivational factors and directions of the policy of Russian Federation towards the EU, in general, and the new members, including the Baltic states, in particular.
Content of study subject –	The creation of the Russian foreign policy and the continuity problem. Russia’s strategic ambivalence. Russian foreign policy and the EU enlargment. Kalinigrad region in the perspective of Russia and EU. The EU-Russia institutional and political framework. The EU-Russia Energy Dialogue. Some tendencies in the relations between Russia and Baltic states in the context of EU.

Aim of study subject –	To introduce and alalyze the factors, which contributed to the development of Germany, and also to the policy of Germany in questions of the integration of Europe.
Tasks of study program –	To analyze the developments of Germany after World War II, accentuating the role of Germany in the process of the integration of Europe; to present the fundaments of the classical theories of political economy and the most significant schools of thought in the contemporary debate with their application to the political process; to show students how to apply theoretical methods in the analyses of the given topics.
Content of study subject –	Restoration of the sovereignty of Germany in 1949-1955. Wespolitik by Konrad Adenauer and Willie Brandt’s Ostpolitik. The role of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland in the European integration. Germany – France anf Germany – Great Britain, and the prospects the European integration. Aim of study subject –	To teach students the theoretical roots and present dynamics of regionalization in Europe. Regionalization is a relatively new phenomenon in the international relations literature, therefore the course is based on discussion of the case studies in the Baltic Sea region.
Tasks of study program –	The course tasks are to help the students to understand: 1) historic development of the theoretical discussion of the regionalization 2) how did the end of the Cold War ideological antagonism provide for the new discourse of the international relations – constructivism 3) what are major differences between old and new regionalism? 4) What is the Baltic Sea region and does it serve as an example for sub-regional development in the EU and World at large?
Content of study subject –	What is regionalism? Cultural, economic and political regionalism within globalization discourse. Old and New regionalism Formative events of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Northern European/Scandinavian alternative for the development studies Regionalism and etatisme – inclusive vs. exclusive polities in making.
