3D Warehouse is not the ideal source for components, with the exception of building mod-
els. Use it as a supplemental resource in tandem with commercial component sites. 
3D Warehouse Advantages
3D Warehouse does have some distinct advantages.
Quick and Dirty Detailing
Using 3D Warehouse is the quickest way to insert detail into 
a model. Open the internal SketchUp 3D Warehouse browser, search for a specific model 
component, pick the best one, and insert it directly into your model. If you need a quick 
kitchen appliance or site element, you can search the Warehouse and place it within 
seconds. 
Contextual Buildings
3D Warehouse is an excellent site to obtain buildings useful for 
backdrops and context (Fig. 13.15). There are thousands of great buildings to use. Many of 
them are used in Google Earth. These buildings have photo-textures for facades, making 
them ideal for rendering because they possess an implied realism (Fig. 13.16). Check out 
the book’s resources links for specific links to useful backdrop buildings.
