Chapter 12: The Detailing Tools 
Focal Length 
Focal length, can be adjusted at any time in SketchUp. Click on the Zoom icon. You can then 
enter a value into the Measurements menu (simply start typing). Values are entered in ##mm + 
enter. Typical focal lengths range from 35 mm to 60 mm (Fig. 12.24, Fig. 12.25, Fig. 12.26).

Chapter 13: Component Details

remade components are widely available and can add context, scale, and action to a model. 
They are easy to obtain and insert, and they can effectively be used to convey a sense of 
realism and context. Although you can and sometimes should make your own components, 
creating original components is beyond the scope of this book. See SketchUp for Site Design 
(Wiley, 2009) to learn more about creating original components. 
This chapter reviews the type of component detail from which architecture, site, and inte-
rior models can benefit. It includes reviews of websites with premade components and search 
parameters that will help you quickly build a library of recommended components for detailing. 
Chapter 14 will teach you the best practices for placing and organizing these premade objects.
What Is Component Detail?
Component detail refers to the many premade models that represent specific elements associated 
with buildings, interiors, and outdoor settings (Fig. 13.1, Fig. 13.2). They range from windows to 
street lights and benches to kitchen appliances, fixtures, books, and crockery. These representative 
models can be downloaded from the web and inserted into models.
