Part 2: Textures
Unfortunately, you can’t enter values in the Measurements bar to provide exact scale and 
rotation values. 
Yellow pin–Distort
The yellow pin will distort a texture, adjusting toward a perspective-
type vanishing point. This can be useful when trying to put an image or texture in 
perspective.
Blue pin–Shear/Scale
This option can create some interesting distortions and ripples in a 
texture, but like the yellow pin, it is not as useful as the red and green pins.
applying Textures to Terrains and Organic Surfaces
The Projected option is used to apply textures to irregular surfaces, such as terrain and the 
curved surfaces of objects or buildings. 
Applying textures to irregular, rounded, or organic surfaces can be tricky in SketchUp. 
Rounded surfaces are composed of many flat faces that create the illusion of curvature. When 
textures are initially applied to these surfaces, the material will appear distorted and frac-
tured (Fig. 8.35): every face takes on the texture image but does not work in tandem with 
neighboring surfaces to display a singular pattern or motif. The result can make the applied 
texture look like shattered glass (Fig. 8.36).
The Projected option allows textures to be applied to irregular, organic, rounded, and 
terrain-like surfaces (Fig. 8.37, Fig. 8.38). The process is simple, but there are some special 
considerations.
