Chapter 23: Exterior Light
Exposure/Gamma/Intensity
IRPs have additional lighting options that affect 
the strength and tone of light. The three most 
common options are Exposure, Gamma, and 
Intensity (Fig. 23.11). Of the three, Exposure is 
the most common and important one to set (Fig. 
23.12, Fig. 2313, Fig. 23.14).
Exposure plays an important role during the 
rendering process. Make sure you adjust the expo-
sure to obtain the best results. The IRP-specific 
lighting chapters review these settings.

Chapter 24: Simulated Lighting
S
imulated light illuminates a model using light sources similar to real-world lamps, bulbs, 
and fixtures (Fig. 24.1, Fig. 24.2). Typically used for interior renderings, simulated light is 
created by inserting and placing light sources throughout a model (Fig. 24.3). The light sources 
can be directed, set to specific lighting outputs, and adjusted to produce different color outputs 
(Fig. 24.4).
