Chapter 12: The Detailing Tools 
Each property has a check box. A checked box means the setting property is retained when 
a scene is created. Unchecking the box will prevent that particular value from being retained 
when a scene is created. 
The three properties outlined here are referenced in the remainder of Part 3 and Part 4. The 
remaining properties can be kept at default (checked) when you’re working through Part 3 
and Part 4. 
Camera Location
When your scene is created and Camera Location is checked, the camera position and view 
will be retained. This option will also save focal length, camera perspective, and section views. 
Unchecking this option means the camera position will not be recorded in the scene. 
Visible Layers
Visible Layers causes the scene to remember which layers were on or off in the Layers menu 
when the scene was created (Fig. 12.18). This option allows you to control layer and component 
visibility by clicking on the scene. Chapter 14 reviews how to create On/Off scenes useful in 
maintaining performance and working with vegetation. 
Shadow Settings 
This scene property remembers the specific Shadow Settings (Windows 
F
Shadows) used at 
the time the scene was created (Fig. 12.19). If the Shadows were On, clicking on the scene will 
turn on the Shadows. All other Shadow settings are retained as well.
