Variety
The placement of a texture on multiple surfaces visible in a view can cause the appearance of 
unnatural repetition. In essence, the moiré pattern becomes visible even though the texture is 
not a single texture. Two examples are:

The beams making up a trellis all have the same wood texture. However, each beam 
looks identical, which causes a distracting pattern (Fig. 9.29). Using the Position Texture 
tools, move the wood texture on each beam to create variety (Fig. 9.30, Fig 9.31). If the 
beams are components, adjusting one will adjust the others. You might need to make 
each beam a unique component to edit the textures. (Select the component, right-click, 
and select Make Unique.)

The backs of the steps visible through the door have the same pattern. Using the Posi-
tion Texture tool (right-click and select Texture), adjust the texture for each back of step 
to create more variety and remove the visible pattern (Fig. 9.32).
