how textures Work with IrPs
Values are assigned to textures using the IRP
Material menu. When the rendering is started,
the IRP render engine will adjust the appearance
of the texture based on these values (Fig. 6.10).
Although each IRP has a different material
editing system, the values provide the same
results.
The values assigned by the IRP control how
reflective, diffuse, blurred, shiny, or coarse the
materials appear (Fig. 6.11). The entered values
depend on the material—for example, a concrete
texture requires diffuse and course settings.
Chrome surfaces should be set to Smooth with a
high reflection. Transparent reflective settings
are typical for glass and windows. Texture values
and settings are reviewed in Chapter 21.

The IRP Material Editors allow for a range of reflections and other effects.
the texturing Process
The texturing process can be broken down into the following basic steps:
1.
Build a Texture Library.
2.
Use the SketchUp Texture tools to apply the textures.
3.
Edit the textures.
The texturing process is described in greater detail in the next
set of chapters.
Build a texture Library
Download and organize texture files into a coherent Texture
Library. Textures should be organized by type and category so
that you can quickly sort them and easily access them. You will
end up reusing many of your textures. Given the sheer variety
of materials that can be arrayed in a model, an organized library
will ensure easy access for your future work. Chapter 7 provides
detailed information and links to websites offering material
images.
