Check the box for Run This Program in Compatibility Mode.

Under Privilege Level, select Run This Program As Administrator.
When you launch SketchUp in the future, you will need to click OK when Windows asks if 
it’s OK to run the software.
Shadow String Fix
A notable problem with previous versions of SketchUp was turning on Shadows and having 
an object cast a shadow on the camera location/view. This would cause the shadows to distort 
and look wrong. The Shadow String Fix, which is available in SketchUp 8 and presumably later 
editions, corrects the issue.
When this occurs, keep the shadows turned on. Go to View 
F
Toolbars and Select Shadows 
String Fix. A small Menu button will appear on the screen. Press the button and SketchUp will 
recalculate the shadows and fix the distortion.
UtC and accurate Shadows
Follow these steps to ensure that shadows display correctly in the model and simulate reality 
appropriately.
Solar North
Using the Solar North tools, make sure the model is oriented the correct way. If it’s not, adjust 
Solar North to the correct direction as described previously.
Latitude and Longitude
You can enter the exact latitude and longitude of your model location into SketchUp. Go to

Geo-Location and enter the latitude and longitude. If necessary, go to

 to find latitude and longitude for the model.
UTC Value
The UTC value is the difference between local time and the Coordinated Universal Time 
standard. You can adjust the UTC at the top of the Shadow menu. You need to this to set the 
correct time for shadows relative to latitude and longitude. To find UTC, go to
