Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa, Durban – renders free Medical Services to the Community of Clare Estate and surrounding areas.
On the first real summers day that Durban has had this year, Sunday 5th December 2016, The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa, Durban held is 5th and final Community Medical Clinic for the year, in Clare Estate. Earlier this year, the Clare Estate and surrounding areas was identified as a resource limited area that required supplementary medical assistance. The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa, Durban in collaboration with the Clare Estate Shiv Temple Society hosted the hundreds of patients that attended the day long clinic. The medical services were received with enthusiasm and gratitude by the community of Clare Estate. The diversity of our rainbow nation was represented in the community in attendance. It was indeed heartwarming to see people help, assist and comfort each other without any consideration of the divides that kept us apart previously.
Specialist medical services were offered free of charge to all who attended the clinic. Medical specialists and allied medical teams worked synergistically throughout the day offering both their time and expertise with an attitude of selfless service. It was indeed a wonderful sight to behold, serving our fellow mankind as if they were serving God.
The disciplines offered during the camp included: General medicine, Paediatrics, general surgery, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, Physiotherapy, Occupational health, Speech therapy, Audiology and Optometry. A mobile dispensary provided patients with the necessary treatment prescribed. Laboratory investigations were also provided free of cost from Lab24 Laboratory Services. Essilor provided spectacles for all requiring patients free of charge. This gift of improved sight will no doubt contribute to a better quality of life for mainly the senior citizens. Nearly 300 patients received the benefit of these free medical services.
Watching the community come out in support of this worthy cause was truly heartwarming. The dedication and collaborative organization between the Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa, Durban and the Clare Estate Shiv Temple Society was an example of how together, united by intention and a common purpose, organizations such as these can reach more people and serve in a spirit of worship, peace and harmony. Seeing the youth serve the older generations was not only heartwarming but equally inspiring. It is the hope that the youth presence during the clinics grows stronger and the idea of ‘service to mankind being worship of God’ become deeply ingrained in the generation that will ultimately carry this as the torch that leads the way for future generations, helping us by example see that ‘I am because you are’.
The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa Durban is grateful to the community of Clare Estate, members of the Clare Estate Shiv Temple Society, doctors, allied medical workers, volunteers and all stakeholders for contributing to the success of this free Community Medical Clinic. They are indeed living examples of that universal truth stated by Swami Vivekananda that, “they alone live, who live for others”. A warm invitation is extended to medical personnel and members of the youth and community who would like to contribute to or participate in the Clinics, to contact the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa Durban. May we continue to offer the best of ourselves to our communities in need, ‘for our own salvation and for the welfare of the world’.
