Vanity is such a place that one day you are very wealthy, the other day you may end 
up being “delicate” as Joseph said. Joseph was very rich and he always believed that 
his reputation couldn’t be damaged. However, as time went by everything changed. 
He was old and vulnerable. In my point of view, Thackeray is going to say by 
Joseph’s situation that “One shouldn’t think that he or she stays the same all the time. 
Time is an excellent respond for this”.

Mrs Crawley is very intelligent woman. She knows everything about her husband. 
She also knows if Joseph dies, all wealth will be left to her. Joseph knows this too. 
Thus he even insured his life. In this novel Rebecca (Mrs Crawley) was described 
very cunning.

Joseph Sedley died at Aix-la-Chapelle. After his demise, it was found that his all 
asset was 2 thousand pounds. This sum was equally devided between his beloved 
sister, Amelia, and his cunning wife, Mrs Crawley.

Rich people think that Rebecca is a most injured woman. First of all, she lost her 
husband. Secondly, she couldn’t take insurance money of Joseph from the Company. 
Thirdly, she also was very vulnerable at the end of the novel.

I think this is the best ending of the novel. But If I had a chance to end the novel 
myself, I would have changed the following things: First of all, Rebecca should have 
died before Joseph, because for me Joseph is better than Rebecca. Secondly, I would 
have described the situation Dobbin and Amelia more clearly. After all the novel has 
got a best-ending.
