The Mausoleum of Kaffal Shashi
The mausoleum of Kaffal Shashi was built on his tomb for the first
time on the orders of Amir Temur. The original mausoleum building is not
well preserved. Therefore, it has been repaired several times.
The place now called “Hastimom” among the people of Tashkent is
an abbreviated form of the name “Hazrati Imam” given to him. In fact, the
full name of this place is Hazrati Imam Kaffal ash-Shashi. Several famous
people of Tashkent are buried near his grave. Among them is another
famous fakih (lawyer), Sultan Muhammad Hafiz Tashkendi (Hafiz
Kohaki). Zayniddin Vasifi, a poet from Herat and the mentor of Bukhara
Khan Navruz Ahmadkhan, is also buried here. Imam Shashi’s services in
the field of science and for the people of the Arab Caliphate were
recognized by many scholars and jurists (fakihs), and it was considered an
honor to have his tomb located in this mausoleum where he rested.
The mausoleum of Kaffal Shashi was restored by the architect
Ghulam Hussein in 1541-1542 by the decree of the ruler of Tashkent
Barakkhan (Navruz Ahmadkhan ibn Suyunchkhojakhan, the khan of
Bukhara in 1551-1556). During the restoration, samples of calligraphy
were written by Kotib Qudrat. The mausoleum was later renovated at
various times. In 2007, the mausoleum was completely renovated.
The mausoleum is a unique example of our national architecture, built
in the form of a rectangle with a blue dome on all four sides. The building
is made of baked bricks and decorated with historical tiles with the names
of the architects and the date of construction. The windows are decorated
with traditional ganch grilles typical of Tashkent.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we can say that our ancestor, Imam Abu Bakr
Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ismail Kaffal Shashi, who aspired to encyclopedic
science, achieved great success in the science of jurisprudence (fikh), and
these achievements were recognized by all the fakihs of his time. The study
of the works of the Imam, in particular, the works of jurisprudence (fikh),
is also important in our time, and there is no doubt that his works will
become an invaluable asset in the history of state and law.
We believe that the study of the scientific heritage of the great jurists
(fakihs) of the First and Second Renaissance, such as Kaffal Shashi, will
make a significant contribution to the development of the national legal
system of our country.
It is known that Kaffal Shashi has a place in the history of world
diplomacy. His services to the peace and tranquility of the people of the
Arab Caliphate are still important today. We think that his steadfastness
and perseverance in performing this difficult task through diplomatic
means will not leave indifferent scientists and the general public of our
country, including professors of major scientific centers such as Tashkent
State University of Law, University of World Economy and Diplomacy,
Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, as well as our specialists in
international diplomatic law.
