The cotton monopoly led the republic's economy to develop unilaterally and become the raw material base of the Union. As a result, Uzbekistan is unable to meet even half of its needs for basic industrial products. 9% of cotton grown in the country is processed. In some regions and districts, cotton fields accounted for 75-80%. In particular, in Andijan, 88% of the land is planted with cotton, and only the roofs of houses are left. This shows how difficult the situation was. Uzbekistan was considered a cotton factory.
