Topic: Work
❓Do you work or are you a student?
I do both. I am a third year student at ….University. I major in a field of education, particularly teaching. I have already started my career as a general English teacher, having a part-time job. I hope to give back to society more by being a professional in teaching sphere.
❓Why did you choose your job?
Well, the primary reason why I decided to pursue a career in teaching was that I really loved english at school and used to explain to my fellows all the topics they couldn’t understand. As I have been good at teaching and explaining ever since I was a kid, I thought it was the only choice I could make. As soon as I realized teaching was my cup of tea, making a decision and accepting the job offer wasn’t that difficult.
❓Do you like your job?
Absolutely, I do. I have always wanted to do something that makes a difference in people’s lives. Feeling my contribution in my students’ achievements gives me great pleasure and I find real satisfaction in helping them make their way out to a brighter future. What I mean is that, for my students to change their lives and their communities, or to leave a mark even at a local level, it is often necessary to get support at a more global level. Being the language of empowerment, English definitely gives my students access to this world.
❓Is there anything you dislike about your job?
Well, I’d rather say there are things that are difficult to manage or cope with, but I can’t call them dislikes. Being a student and a teacher at the same time, I have to work racing the clock from time to time to meet all the assignment deadlines set by my university. Being pressed for time, juggling between work and studies has proven to be a single major challenge for me.
❓What was your dream when you were younger?
Oh, being a kid, I wanted to become either a CEO of a big company or a businessperson. I was pretty sure that these jobs would bring me both a six -figure salary and a sense of satisfaction in no time. I used to dream about prancing around, carrying a bag full of money. Real life was an eye-opener for me though!
❓Have you changed your mind on your dream job?
Well, on the whole “no”, because this is what I still dream about. I have just realized that there are quite a lot of things in this career that I didn’t think about at a younger age. For example, the fact that I have to sacrifice “my comfort zone” to blow my business up, and I also need expertise in this field and people who support me to start everything from the scratch. Now I know that standing on my own feet is a lot more effort.
