Topic: Study

❓Do you work or are you a student?

I’m currently a student at …., which is one of the top schools in the nation. Admission is incredibly competitive, so I’m very proud of being a student here.

❓What are you studying?

Well, I’m majoring in Accountancy, so as you can guess, I deal a lot with numbers and figures day in, day out. It can be overwhelming at times, but I think that I have a knack for mathematics and calculations, so it’s okay.

❓Why did you choose to study that major?

There are many reasons for my choice. Primarily, I have an interest in Accountancy, and I hope I can get ahead in no time in the future. Another reason could be because of Accountancy itself since I’ve found that my personality has changed positively. I’ve become more patient and skillful.

❓What’s the most difficult part of your study?

Well, for the most part, I’d say it’s the workload. I mean there are so many assignments, and students are always under a lot of pressure to meet deadlines. But on the other hand, exams are a piece of cake. They are entirely predictable, and I can pretty much breeze through them with a bit of revision.

❓What do you like most about your school?

I guess the aspect I find most enjoyable is the environment. I mean, I get to study in English-speaking classrooms, and the facilities are top-notch; I mean, all the classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with projectors. My friends and teachers are all adorable, so, all in all, it’s a great place to study.

Topic: Hometown

❓What’s (the name of) your hometown and where is it?

Tashkent is my hometown. It is the capital of Uzbekistan and by far the largest city in the country.

❓Is that a big city or a small place?

Tashkent is a huge sprawling city, because if you view the city from a tall building, you get the feeling that it doesn’t end. It takes hours to go from one side of the city to another.

❓Please describe your hometown a little? (or) What’s your hometown like? (or) Tell me about your hometown.

Being a capital city, it’s a densely-populated place, so it is quite crowded and noisy. Also, as Tashkent has the highest number of vehicles, traffic jams are norm here. However, it has a very rich history, and for this reason, it is really popular with tourists who come to visit our wonderful ancient mosques and madrasah (old-fashioned term for university). On top of that, it is never boring to live here as the city provides a wide range of entertainment options. It is home to our government and other major institutions as well.

❓How long have you been living there?

I have lived here my whole life. I have never left my hometown.

❓Do you like your hometown? If yes, what do you like (most) about your hometown?

Yes, I do like my hometown! I like the hospitality of people in my hometown. Everyone is willing to give others a hand when they need help. Speaking of entertainment, it is never boring no matter what your interests are as you can easily find where to go and what to do. Also, it has a breathtaking view of picturesque landscapes in the suburbs.

❓Do you think you will continue living there for a long time?

Every time an opportunity to move to a different place turns up, I come to realize that I want to be here above elsewhere as the city is rich in everything you could possibly desire. Tashkent is the city of infinite possibilities for ambitious and career-driven people like me and a lot of international companies here for their headquarters.
❓Has your hometown changed much since you were a child?
Actually yes. It has changed enormously. It has turned from peaceful to a bustling city. First of all, the general quality of landscape has improved a lot. For example, around 20 years ago you would barely find tall buildings, but now you’d easily be able to catch sight of skyscrapers and tower blocks here. On top of that, as ancient buildings have been restored, the city has turned into a remarkable tourist attraction.

❓Do you often visit the countryside?

Yes, I usually head out on a day trip to lots of pleasant countryside regions on the weekend to recharge my energy after a busy week.

❓If so, who do you visit in the countryside?

I like to visit my grandmother in the countryside. I usually get there on a train. Whenever I get the chance to see her & enjoy the great fruit, spending some time getting back to nature, I find myself restored & relaxed.

❓Do you have family or friends living in the countryside?

Yes, my grandmother still lives in the countryside. She is a farmer & she really enjoys the tranquillity & the beauty of the countryside, so she decided to stay there for the rest of her life.

❓Would you like to live in the countryside in the future?

Absolutely! I’m a huge fan of the forest. The environment there is just superb. Now and then I would visit a forest just because there isn’t that much pollution and I could smell the fresh air. The animals there are also quite cute – especially some colourful birds.

❓Have areas of countryside in your country changed since you were a child?

There is a massive change in the countryside, primarily because of industrialization. As the lush green fields are converted to mills and industries, young people no longer stay there.
