Dommage!

Use this adverb to show empathy or express disappointment.

Élaine est malade. Dommage! 

Élaine is sick. Too bad!

Il pleut. Dommage pour le pique-nique. 

It’s raining. Too bad for the picnic!

Mais non, voyons!

The expression mais non is an emphatic no or of course not. The verb voyons (literally, let’s see), 

added to the phrase, makes a reply more forceful and somewhat indignant.

—Tu as encore eu un accident de voiture?  —Have you had another car accident?

—Mais non, voyons! — 

Of course not! (implying “How can  

you think that?”)

Ça m’intéresse!

Use this structure to express that you are interested in something (rather than trying to make a 

literal translation of I’m interested).

La politique? Ça m’intéresse beaucoup. 

Politics? It interests me a lot.
