turn into
The basic idea of turn is rotate, revolve, go round in a circle. You are
happily driving your Rolls-Royce down the high street when suddenly you
want to turn into a side street because you have just seen a place to
park. Nice and simple. First you were in the busy high street, and now you
are in a quiet road. You are in a different road, a different situation,
perhaps, a different state.
By extension, when it is very cold, water turns into ice. It's a different
situation, a different state.
When certain football supporters drink lots of beer, they can turn into
hooligans.
