Health Officials Issue a Water Quality Advisory at Several Ocean Beach Locations in Long Beach Island

LONG BEACH ISLAND- As part of our weekly participation in New Jersey Department of Environmental Protections Cooperative Coastal Monitoring Program, six (6) bay and fourteen (14) ocean beach

locations are sampled on Long Beach Island for enterococcus bacteria, an indicator organism of water

quality.
On August 30^th, 2016 seven (7) ocean beach locations including- Joan Avenue & Stockton Avenue in

Long Beach Township, Leeward Avenue & Taylor Avenue in Beach Haven, South 3^rd Street & 14^th Street

in Ship Bottom, and North 10^th Street in Surf City, had elevated bacteriological results.

The Health Department has issued a water quality advisory for these locations. We also are currently

conducting additional water sampling to verify if these occurrences are part of an ongoing water quality

issue and would warrant further public health precautions, such as bathing restrictions.
New water quality results will be reported for these locations Wednesday August 31, 2016 in the late

afternoon. The public is urged to access up-to-date water quality information at www.njbeaches.org or

call 1-800-648-SAND.
