OTHER FORECASTING ISSUES
This chapter has emphasized that FOMs must be concerned about forecasts of the
number of rooms to be occupied (available) on future dates. First, FOMs want to
ensure that all guests with a reservation for a specific type of room will have the pre-
ferred room available at time of registration. Second, FOMs need room demand
information when they make pricing decisions. As noted in Roadmap 5, the chapter

transient guests and their arrival. An extended forecast is made from an analysis
of historical, current, and future data. The number of and potential importance of
unforeseen factors make it difficult to make pricing and other decisions based on
these longer-term estimates.
