Convention hotel:
Lodging property with extensive and flexible meeting and exhibition spaces that mar-
kets to associations, corporations, and other groups bringing people together for meetings.
The needs of group travelers visiting a hotel or conference center differ mark-
edly from those of individual travelers. Group travelers typically require adequate
function space, breakout rooms for small-group activities, large dining areas, and
group entertainment and activity areas.
The most common facility requirement for group gatherings is an adequate
number of appropriately sized function rooms. Convention hotels contain thou-
sands (and sometimes hundreds of thousands!) of square feet of space that can
easily be separated into function rooms of almost any size needed by any group. For
example, a large ballroom may be capable of seating several thousand persons. At the
other extreme, a small hospitality suite can provide selected group members with a
quiet getaway after a busy day of meetings.
