Muslim states of Africa

The Muslim majority states of Africa are spread all over the continent. As any other states

in  the  continent,  these Muslim  states  are  also defined  in  relation to  corruption,  poor

governance and poverty. However, the northern part of the continent consists of Muslim

states that are by conventional definition better off than the Sub-Saharan and eastern part

 

 

 

 

 

 

of  the  continent.  The  political  system  of  these  Muslim  states  varies  between  non-

democratic, semi-democratic and constitutional monarchies. In all the states governments

strictly control the  process of democratization. Even though  Egypt, Libya  and Tunisia

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

have  recently  gone  through  revolutionary  changes,  they  are  still  in  the  process  of

transformation. For this study, only major selected countries are taken as representative

samples presenting aggregate data  showing varying levels of  commitments concerning

protection of minorities and managing ethnic relations (Table 2).
