Evaluative Assignment 1: Communicative Language Teaching. 
Learning second language takes a lot of effort and time and especially, to 
communicate with this language. There are different methods that are being used 
to teach English as a foreign language but not all of them help us to reach to 
desired communicative goals, however, communicative approach is one way of 
teaching English communicatively. Communicative language teaching use in the 
English classroom to improve 
students’
oral skills rather than linguistic competence 
through learner interaction. In classroom that utilize CLT method, students do most 
of the talking, to practice communicating in English, continuously talking with each 
other despite the mistakes. We need to communicate in order to express our ideas, 
feelings, and thoughts this is the main reason why communicative activities should 
be used into the lesson. Main objectives of communicative language teaching are 
to improve communicative proficiency of all the skills including reading, writing, 
listening and speaking, CLT focus on the fluency of the learners rather than the 
accuracy of the grammar, and grammar is the second option of the learners and 


they discover and internalize the grammatical rules and functions themselves. 
Communicative activities are essential in classroom while learning second 
language. Teacher can utilize a wide variety of individualized activities and 
meaningful tasks. I can say that, CLT has highly positive impact on the relationship 
between teachers, students and their peers. Students might engage in role playing 
based on real life scenarios such as discussing hobbies, favorite food, describing a 
book or movie they have recently enjoyed. When students work with pair, they 
can feel safer communicating without fear of making mistake. Once students work 
on communicative activities, teachers should continue providing appropriate 
feedback and error correction since these are highly motivating for learners. 
Activities should be presented in a situation or context and have communicative 
purpose. Discussion is one of the ways of teaching language. It is an active 
method of sharing opinions on a specific problem individually and freely. Story 
forming is an interesting and teamwork activity it provides opportunities for 
learners to improve imagination, speaking and as well as communication skills. 
Topics 
are selected and graded regarding age, needs, level and student’s interest. 


Motivation must be central.
Teachers should rise students’ interest from the 
beginning of the lesson. As the teacher is not the center of the class. The learners 
take on a new role of being active in their learning and working together to interact 
and contribute to classroom participation. Materials also plays essential role in 
CTL. Textbooks, task-based activities: games, cue cards, interaction booklets, role 
play materials make a difference in the classroom.
One of the languages that enables people to have international contact is English. 
As an international language, the bridge of one country with others, English must 
be familiar with public. In this sense that, those who communicate by using English 
must know it well or at least understand it. More and more people around the 
world are studying English as the second language. The English teaching has more 
concerned in Uzbekistan too. 30-50 years before, the English language was taught 
with the help of the grammar translation method in order to passing the 
Universities national exam in Uzbekistan. There was no interest to learn the culture 
and tradition of English-speaking countries. Moreover, the lessons were all teacher 

oriented and students were expected to rarely participate during classes. My 


language learning situation was similar too. Not only me but also my other
groupmates week point was speaking skill when we entered the University. In my 
case, Due to my lack of communicative ability, I faced many difficulties during my 
university years and gradually tried to improve my communicative ability by 
working on myself and participating different speaking club. In my point of view, 
knowing about grammar rules, vocabulary, and cultural information are not enough 
to help non-native speakers negotiate and interact in the foreign language. So, 
Since I have started my career as an English teacher, I have tried to use more CLT 
method during my classes. The benefits of using CLT method is much more 
student-
oriented, because it is based on students’ needs and
interests. They learn 
grammatical rules as a necessity to speak, so they become more competent and 
effective. Through this method, my students became more interested in learning 
English. Some of my students are now qualified English language specialists better 
than me. Uzbek students are very sociable, teachers will find it easy to make 
communicative environment in the classroom through activities. I think all the 
activities done in the classroom must be communicative. It is true that when we 


talk about reading or writing some grammatical rules students feel bored, but it is 
not their problem, it is teachers’
problem. Most of the teachers don’t know how to 
make a communicative lesson, and I think we must to start solving this problem.
Nowadays, the methods of learning language have changed in Uzbekistan as well. 
Instead of Teacher-oriented grammar translation methods, modern techniques such 
as communicative language teaching became popular. There have been different 
workshops, teaching materials, and syllabus produced by both the Education 
Ministry and foreign organizations. All of these greatly contributed to the 
knowledge and experience of ESL/ EFL teachers in Uzbekistan. I can say that, many 
of our young students are currently achieving highest level of language proficiency 
certificate (IELTS, TOEFL, CEFR) because of learning CLT method. Unfortunately, 
there are still some teachers who used old language methods due to lack of 
communicative ability. 
This is one of our problems that teacher’s methodology in 
teaching foreign language is still outdated. However, our young generations differ 
from current and past 
people. They are ready to absorb all new things and teachers’ 
duty is to find out and comfortable ways of giving new information.


And I am planning to get more knowledge by taking different teaching language 
courses and be aware to operate my skills and knowledge when I come back to 
Uzbekistan.
