participation in discussions; giving presentations; and listening skills.
The current study was designed to investigate students' perception of web-resource
integrated learning as experienced in Web Quest Writing Instruction (WQWI). For this
purpose, two hypotheses were generated:
Hypothesis 1:
Students of the experimental group will be motivated by the authentic
materials and tasks posted on the Web Quest.
Hypotheses 2:
Students of the experimental group will demonstrate more progress in
their writing skills than that yielded by the control group.
Instructor
The instructor, a native speaker of Arabic, has been teaching English as a foreign
language for over seventeen years in the English department of public secondary school
and of some universities. She has an extensive experience in teaching and coordination
at Public Secondary Schools. She has authored 9 English books and 3 Law and Legal
English books so far. She is majored in English and Applied Linguistics. The instructor
assisted in training the counselors, of the Republic of Lebanon Ministry of education and
higher education center for education development (CERD), on the use of web quests
and authentic materials in classrooms. Moreover, she had utilized Web resources for
teaching writing prior to this research project. Her role in this research was providing
traditional writing instruction to participants in the control group and Web Quest
Instruction to participants in the experimental group.
Subjects
This research was conducted in a public school in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut. The
study employs on the quasi experimental pretest posttest design since the participants of
the study are two eighth grade classes in a public school receiving 6-hour- English
instruction a week. The control group includes 22 students whereas the experimental
group includes 23 students ,and 34 students of both groups completed their seventh
grade class in the same public school whereas the remaining 11 subjects were
previously enrolled in different public schools. As such, linguistic composition of the
subjects of both groups should be similar since all the Lebanese public schools employ
similar teaching and learning standards ,textbooks(Grade 8 official English language
textbook) and regulations being monitored and supervised by the Republic of
Lebanon
Ministry of Education
& Higher Education. The control and experimental groups consist of
45 students whose ages range from 13 to 16 years old. The 5 -week instruction given to
the subjects covers the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
