Making friends online has been increasingly popular in recent years, thanks to the widespread use of
cyberspace and social media. Friends, in the classic sense, are those you can rely on in difficult times
and with whom you can share your joys and sorrows. The internet can help you reach this goal. Millions
of individuals use the Internet to seek advice from friends. However, the majority of people regard their
friends as family. Our young people are losing their offline friends to online friends who are unable to
provide the same deep connection, emotional support, and satisfaction, according to the author of his
book. However, several facts suggest that these complaints are mostly unjustified. According to the
findings, adolescents who are socially adjusted are more likely to have a social networking profile than
those who are not. People do not exchange offline friends with online friends, according to another
study, but they do utilize them to promote offline connections. Furthermore, social networks enable us
to contact with people from other countries, share knowledge, establish friends and even find love in
ways that are not possible in the physical world.
‘Although the numbers of friends people have on these sites can be massive, the actual number of
close friends is approximately the same in the face to face real world’ said psychologist Will Reader.
Although this bond is weaker than one with a real person, evidence suggests that young people might
nevertheless benefit substantially from it. Teenagers do not appear to be losing face to face friends,
according to research, and the additional connections afforded by social networking have proven to be
useful. They also came to the conclusion that our virtual friendships bring social benefits and help our
mental health. Our poorer links, in particular, contribute to this.
To summarize, today’s teenagers use social media to interact with their friends, family and others.
There’s no evidence that internet friendships influence offline friendships. People should keep engaging
with their pals online in order to avoid losing them.
