The Bathtub
Bill Taft loved to eat. At breakfast, he ate three bowls of oatmeal. At lunch, he ate four 
peanut butter sandwiches. He ate six apples for snack, and nine cookies. Dinner was 
the biggest meal of all. Then, Bill ate five pork chops, ten baked potatoes, and a whole 
apple pie!
Bill Taft became president. He was happy, but he had a problem. He was too fat to fit 
into the bathtub in the White House. “How will I take a bath?” 
he asked.
“Maybe you should not eat so much,” his wife said.
“But I love to eat!” he cried. “And I have to be clean.”
His staff thought and thought. Finally, they said, “We will have 
to build a special bathtub for you.”
They built the biggest bathtub in the world. Four men could fit 
into it at once—four small men, of course. When Bill got into 
the tub, he smiled. “Perfect!” he said.

Rosa on the Bus
Rosa Parks was tired. She had been sewing all day. She got on the bus and sat 
down, but the bus driver told her to move.
“No,” said Rosa. “I need to sit down.”
The bus driver was mad. Rosa was black. He said it was a rule that she should stand 
so that white people could sit down.
“No,” said Rosa again.
She was brave. Because of her, people stopped riding 
the bus. They said that black people should get to sit 
down, just like white people. They would not ride the 
bus again until the problem was solved. 
Rosa went to court in Alabama, and she won. Now, all 
people could sit down on the bus. Thank you, Rosa!
