Concept Definitions
Larceny
The taking of property from a person, without that person’s consent,
and with the intent to deprive the person permanently of the use of the property.
The two types of larceny are 
grand larceny
and 
petty
(
petit
) 
larceny,
depending
upon the value of the property stolen.
Robbery
A form of theft in which goods or money are taken from a person against
that person’s will through the use of 
violence or fear
. The key words in this defini-
tion are 
violence or fear
. These words differentiate this type of theft from larceny.
Burglary
A theft against a dwelling.
Tourist dwellings
A hotel room or a place where a tourist resides (excluding a
private residence) while traveling.
