Chapter 12: The Detailing Tools 
Creating and Naming Layers
The Layer menu is accessed under Window 
F
Layers. To create a new layer, click on the 
(+) button 
at the top. A new layer line will appear so that you can name it. Double-clicking on a layer name 
allows you to rename it (Fig. 12.11).

Active Layer
Clicking on the radio button to the left of a layer will make it active. Layer 0 is the default 
drafting layer and should always be active unless components are being inserted into the 
model. When premade components are added to the model, they are placed on active layers as 
outlined in Chapter 14 (Fig. 12.11). 
Toggling Off
Unchecking the box to the right of a layer name will toggle the layer off. All objects on the layer 
will be invisible. It is not possible to turn off a layer while it’s active. 
Deleting Layers
Selecting a layer and clicking on the (-) button will delete it. If the layer has no geometry or 
components on it, the layer will be removed automatically. If it contains any geometry, a new 
dialogue will appear with three options:

Move Contents to Default Layer: Use this option when you’re deleting a layer. Any 
geometry or components on the deleted layer are placed on Layer 0. It will ensure that 
no necessary geometry is removed from the model (Fig. 12.12).
