Part 2: Textures
Surface and Model Context 
Textures represent real-world materials and surfaces constructed into a context befitting 
their purpose. A sometimes overlooked aspect of texture placement is addressing the specific 
circumstances of the material. Consider the following to determine whether textures fit with 
the model context and reposition textures as appropriate. 
Orientation 
Is the applied material oriented in the correct manner relative to the environment in which 
it is placed? For example, if an applied flooring texture is skewed, creating an awkward and 
unrealistic appearance, rotate the texture, using the Position texture tool, so it’s aligned to the 
room’s orientation and reflects a real-world condition (Fig. 9.24, Fig. 9.25).

Alignment
Align textures to meet at edges or at the confluence of surfaces. Here are two examples:

Repositioning textures to create a congruent appearance where two walls meet with a 
ceramic tiles texture, but the alignment of the tiles does not meet (Fig. 9.28)
