Chapter 29: Shaderlight Simulated Lighting

haderlight offers a variety of options that include unique lighting elements not found in 
other IRPs. Shaderlight’s simulated light settings are a bit more complex than most but not 
hard to master. This chapter describes the different lighting types and specific settings used to 
establish lighting for rendering (Fig. 29.1).
This chapter is designed to be used in conjunction with Chapter 20 and Chapter 24, which 
provide overviews and strategies for using simulated lighting. The material in these chapters is 
key to working with Shaderlight (and other IRP) simulated lighting options.

Part 6: Shaderlight by ArtVPS
Many of the rendered images in this chapter were completed in a test model. The model con-
sisted of a floor, walls, associated textures, furnishings, and various lights. Using a test model 
is an ideal way to learn how to use a specific IRP’s lighting system. The results are easily trans-
ferable to other models and allow users to quickly test light placement and settings.
Shaderlight Lighting Options
Shaderlight uses the same basic lighting system outlined in Chapter 24. This includes using 
point, spot, IES lighting profiles, and light-emitting materials (LEM) (Fig. 29.2, Fig. 29.3). 
The placement and use of those lights follows the universal method outlined in that chapter.
