limited time spend with families. The one participant who called himself not
fully enthusiastic admitted that he never goes out of his way for his business
only rather he takes every opportunity possible for spending quality time
with his family. Moreover,
he agreed that he doesn
’
t believe working extra
hard would let him earn extra money instead it will just take away his peace
of mind. On the other hand, rest of the 4 immigrant
entrepreneurs had a
different opinion on this and they admitted that survival of business ensures
their survival so they couldn
’
t give importance to work over social gathering
or family time. They also added that their affectionate commitment is also
inspired by the goals they have set for themselves which is the core purpose
of leaving their comfort in home country and to make a life in host country.
4.12.1 Reasoning behind partial confirmation of commitment as a survival
factor
One of the participant called himself not fully
committed and his statement
was follows:
“
If you ask me that do I compromise my social life or family time
over my business, my answer would be
‘
No
’
. I believe what is meant
for you will make its way to you so why we need to stress ourselves?
I will get it if it
’
s
in my fate but it doesn
’
t mean that I give my
everything to my business. I believe on a good balance between work
and my life after work. (Case 3).
The rest of 4 participants called themselves fully committed and their
statements are mentioned below:
“
I think my business is all I have in Korea if my business is not going
well it will eventually affect my social life and family life. My family is
dependent on me so I make sure I put every
effort possible to earn
good and to support them.

“
I am fully committed to my business even if it means compromising
my social life. I am never hesitant to stay late at work because it
’
s my
priority over everything else
”
. (Case 2)
“
I am fully committed to my business which means I often stay open
for longer hours if I have customers. I also have to make sure I have
all the fresh ingredients so that no matter what hour of day it is once
my customers walk in, they get the best food I can make for them. I
often couldn
’
t participate
in my family events but that
’
s what I have
willingly signed up for.
”
(Case 4)
“
I go to every length for my business because that
’
s what brings me
out of the bed every morning. I don
’
t remember the day when I wasn
’
t
excited to go to work because I feel like that is something I have
created
”
. (Case 5)
