Sociolinguistic competence - 
watching the language to the existing 
contextual background. Our language is inseparable from the times in which it is used. 
In order to use this type of competence properly, it is necessary to be able to 
understand different expressions depending on the situation in which we find 
ourselves. The need to learn to understand when a particular word is pronounced 
literally or figuratively This competence is provided at the innate level. Fictional 
films, unlike texts, convey emotions, gestures, facial expressions and even an ironic 
rhythm. Accordingly, when watching films, sociolinguistic competence, like phonetic 
competence, is achieved at an automated level, since the recipient is visually 
provided with the entire context of the plot with auxiliary means.

Discourse competence
- includes skills related to the interpretation of 
messages and the transmission of many types of communication in different 
circumstances. The content of the story should be holistic and coherent. We 
implement this type of competence into practice when (verbally or in writing) 
communicate in a daily life, giving the message an orderly and logical structure. 
Naturally, watching films, especially those specialized for the future profession, 
includes complete, logically connected and daily actions. This is one of the best 
simulations of a real situation where the recipient can observe the life of other people 
as a spectator, studying the use of foreign words, terminology, constructions and 
atypical structures of the native language. If We take the TV series “House M.D.” as 
an example, each episode includes a logical chain of consecutive actions.
