Describing the subject
These verbs are
used to describe the subject. They need a
complement and can be replaced by be without
turning the sentence into nonsense.
Appear
-The stars appear so close to us.
Be
-You are the best.
Feel
-I feel so tired.
Remain
-The situation remains the same.
Seem
-They seem unhappy.
Possession
These verbs describe
ownership and possession.
Belong
-This bag belongs to my wife.
Boast
-The car boasts a powerful engine.
Have
-(got) Helen has got a great library.
Own
-We don't own this house.
Possess
-Aloe possesses healing properties.
The
whole
and
its
parts
These verbs
describe a relationship between the whole and
its parts, which can be seen as an unchanging
relationship.
Consist
-Water consists of oxygen and
hydrogen.
