Prizes are always inspiring and help people to perform
better than the current
level. I also dream of receiving a prize for my academic excellence. The prize is
known as the President’s Merit Award for academic excellence and distributed
among the students who have a high performance on their academic activities.
I am an undergraduate student of architecture at Universiti Tunku Abdul
Rahman , commonly known as UTAR in Malaysia. I am studying Foundation in
Arts – Graphic Design, Multimedia and Architecture.
Here I am undergoing
courses about graphic design, architecture and multimedia. The courses are a
bit difficult for me as I am not from the arts background. So, initially, it became
difficult for me to get through the courses. But gradually I started
understanding them and now I have understood the courses very well than any
other students. Thereby, I am planning to get the President’s
Merit Award this
year and there are chances for me to win the award.
When I got admitted in the university, I did not have any idea about the award
at all. Suddenly one day, in my architecture class, the teacher was describing
his success and how he got the President’s
Merit Award from the same
university a couple of years ago. I got interested in the award and asked him to
describe in detail. Then he told me and the entire class about the award. This is
one of the most prestigious awards for the students and only those students
could achieve it who have a higher academic excellence. Besides, he also
described the benefits of achieving the award. All of the students in the class
were amazed at the description of the award. The
president of the country
distributes the award among the best students. It is a great chance to meet
with the president and also opens the potential of future success. When a
student is awarded with the President’s Merit Award, s/ he is respected in the
society.
Winning the prize is not a matter of joke. It requires seriousness for the
potential candidates. Usually, the students
having a strong academic
background are eligible for the award. But students who are performing better
than the average scores also could apply for the award. But the institution
authority confers the award to those who have some outstanding score in their
academic activities throughout the academic year. They, in fact, do not need to
apply for the award. I think I have to apply for the award as the initial scores of
mine are not up to the mark. Thereby, the authority
will not select me for the
award and instead I have to submit an application. Then I have to study hard to
win the prizes. Usually, I waste most of my time on social networking sites and
often I go out with my buddies to pass leisure hours. But if I want to win the
prize, I have to be sincere with my studies and also have to give up wasting
times unnecessarily. I am irregular to my class as well and have also to change
the habit. I know, it is difficult for me
to change my usual lifestyle, but surely I
will do it for the betterment of my future.
I was unaware of the prize but when I came to know about it, I intend to win it.
Now it has become important for me. Usually, the President’s Merit Award
winners are considered special in everywhere and in the case of career, they
are prioritised. To build up a career has become a difficult task in Malaysia for
the growing population and migration. I
have a plan to establish an
architectural firm in the later phase of my life and initially I will learn
everything about the subject. If I could get attached to any reputed
architectural company, it would help me to move ahead with confidence. But if
I do not have any academic distinction, I would lose the eligibility to be hired
by any reputed company. Besides, I also
need the award to prove my
excellence on the subject and having the President’s Merit Award is really a
great issue for any student, especially who is non-native in the country. So,
considering all the aspects, it is highly important for me to win the President’s
Merit Award.
