METHOD AND MEASURES
To remain consistent with previous research, the measures were selected from previous studies in the
relevant disciplines (marketing, management and organizational psychology). Surveys were distributed to
approximately 460 employees in four different hotels in Australia. Each of the hotels were either four- or five-star
and each belonged to either a regional or international chain. In total, 323 unique responses were received from the
employees of different departments in each of the hotels across departments in similar proportion to the population
of each hotel. Of these, 314 surveys were usable, representing a response rate of 68.2%. Response rates varied from
52.6% to 83.1%, well within what would be considered a reasonable and representative sample (Tabachnick &
Fidell, 2001).
