There are many other ways to divide the diagnosis. Military cases of PTSD
appear harder to treat (although again, they are not untreatable), perhaps be-
cause of both the severity of the traumatic experience and the difficulty vet-
erans face in readapting and re- assimilating to civilian society upon their
return from the front.
DSM-5
distinguishes between subtypes of PTSD: a pre-
school classification, for children less than six years old; and a dissociative
subtype, for patients who feel detached and depersonalized, and with delayed
expression (Table 2. 1).
