fam ily  w as  very  poor  and  his  fath er  spent  tim e  in  d e b to r’s  prison.  C harles  attended 
school  o f f  and  on  and  at tim es w o rk ed   to  help  support his  fam ily.  H e  w anted  to  study 
v ery   m u ch ,  but he did not finish  school.
W hen  he  w as  about  fifteen,  he  often  v isited  th e  fam ous  library  o f   the  B ritish 
m u seu m .  L ater  D ickens  d escribed  parts  o f   his  childhood  in  som e  o f   his  fam ous 
no v els,  such  as  “L ittle  D orrit” ,  “N ick o las  N ick leb y ” ,  “O liver  T w ist”  and  “D avid 
C o p p e rfie ld ” .
