KEMRI relies on grants from foreign donors for its development expenditures, and it 
seems that the expansion of the collaborative research was enabled through the 
research infrastructure of KEMRI developed by Japan.  Japanese cooperation with 
KEMRI has contributed to strengthening its research capacity as well as its financial 
sustainability.
