Capacity Development of KEMRI
As mentioned in Section 5.1.3, it is assumed that technical cooperation provided by
JICA since 1979 aimed to strengthen the research capacity of KEMRI, and also
strengthened the capacity of medical personnel engaged in infectious diseases control
though training.
Besides the JICA projects, KEMRI has conducted collaborative research with the
CDC and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research since its establishment.
KEMRI improved its research capacity based on the support provided by JICA and
other foreign institutes, and activated collaborative research. A case example of such
collaborative research.carried out by KEMRI and foreign research institutes is shown
in Table 5.18.
