Question 8 What tools do we use? 

Profiles: ‘Snap-shot’ views of the economy of an area based on secondary data. Essentially looking backwards 

at what has happened in an area, usually comparing the local economy with some reference point (e.g. the 

national economy). This could include relative indices and shift-share analysis and be used to drive SWOT 

analyses.
