Advertising on Facebook
Due to a large number of users and advanced options for targeting the users, Facebook is a very
popular platform for paid advertising on social media. In order to start advertising on Facebok,
it is advisable that you have your own Facebook account. Once you are logged into your
account, use the option in the top bar of the Facebook profile, to access the drop down menu.
In this drop down menu, there are two options:
• Create Ads – This option allows you to quickly create and set up your ad on
Facebook.
• Manage Ads – Use this option to access your Ads Manager where you will be able to
access all of the running campaigns, to edit the billing details, such as your credit
card information.
In addition,using Facebook Ads Manager, you will get insight related to the ads, so you will see
the number of clicks, conversions, reach, etc. Ads Manager also helps you set up the daily
budget and total budget, so you can easily manage and limit the costs of the campaign. All of
the information in the Ads Manager can be exported in the form of a report, which is perfect
for you to analyze the performance of paid advertising and determine if this strategy is
something you should pursue in the future.

If you want to create an ad on Facebook, you can either use the Ads Manager or the quick
option Create Ads available in the drop down menu.
The first part of creating an ad is to choose the goals you want to achieve with the campaign.
The goal will affect the ad itself, so it is advisable to choose and set a realistic goal you want to
achieve. The options include:
• Page post engagement
• Page likes
• Clicks to website
• Website conversions
• App installs
• App engagement
• Event responses
• Offer claims

By selecting one of these goals, you will access a new set of options to customize your add and
encourage people to click, engage, install, claim, etc.
In order to illustrate the process of setting up an ad on Facebook, we will choose the second
option that is available here, the option to increase the number of likes on a Facebook page.
Once you select this option, you will choose the page you want to promote and click on
“Continue”.
Now you will need to follow several simple steps in order to provide the information about your
ad and choose the budget for the campaign. The first step is to add images. Up to six images
can be added to the ad, with an option to reposition the images.

You will then provide the headline and the text of the ad. The headline is limited to 25
characters and the text of the ad can be up to 90 characters long. You will be able to see the
preview of the ad on the right, with both desktop preview and mobile preview.

In the next step you will choose the audience. Facebook has a lot of options to target the
audience, including location, gender, age, interest, etc. As you set up this option, you will see
the potential reach which refers to the number of people who are within that specific target
group. Choosing a certain group to target, you will increase the number of people who will be
interested in the ad, which ultimately results in more efficient advertising campaign.

The following option allows you to set payment option for the campaign. The budget, as well as
the schedule, can be edited later on from Ads Manager.
