When we want to buy something, we go to a shop. There are many kinds of shops in every 

town or city, but most of them have a food supermarket, a department store, men's and 

women's clothing stores, grocery, a bakery and a butchery. I like to do my shopping at big 

department stores and supermarkets. They sell various goods under one roof and this is very 

convenient. A department store, for example, true to its name, is composed of many 

departments: readymade clothes, fabrics, shoes, sports goods, toys, china and glass, electric 

appliances, cosmetics, linen, curtains, cameras, records, etc. You can buy everything you like 

there. There are also escalators in big stores which take customers to different floors.

There are many means of communication  in the modern world. Of course, they are used not 

only for communication  itself, for example, between two people, but also for advertising.  

Advertising is a significant part of the modern life. It surrounds us everywhere: billboards, 

articles in the newspapers, advertising videos on TV, broadsheet and so on. 

On one hand, advertising is an effective way of spreading the awareness among people about 

the use of new and existing products 

n the other hand, it stimulates people for impulsive buying by providing different promotional offers. 

As a result, instead of saving spend their money on purchasing unnecessary goods

My favourite book is "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. 

I first discovered these stories when I was about twelve and I've loved them ever since.  

When you read them you really feel like you've been carried back to nineteenth-century 

London. All the twentieth century detectives like Miss Marple and Inspector Morse seem 

really boring compared to Sherlock Holmes. 

That's where Conan Doyle, really makes you believe that Holmes is unique — a genius with 

amazing mental powers. Normally I only read detective stories once. I mean, why read  

them again when you know what happens in the end? With the Sherlock Holmes stories, 

though, its different. Each time I re-read them I discover more and more to enjoy.

How do you spend your leisure time?  

 

Everybody sometimes has a free time. Somebody prefers only to sleep in their leisure time, but 

most of us prefer to do a great number of interesting things. It may be reading, various types of 

sport games, watching TV, listening to music and so on. If we have a few day or a week we 

prefer to go to the attractive places. Many people think that pupils and studients have too much 

leisure time, but in my opinion, they are wrong. We are very busy. When I have some free 

intellectual show. But sometimes, when I just want to have a rest or enjoy my leisure time, I 

prefer listening to music, watching a comedy or go dancing. Besides, it is pleasant to go for a 

walk with my friends and to chat with them.
