In this regard, the aim of our research was to increase the effectiveness of prevention and
treatment of chronic tonsillitis by studying the effect of pathology of the nasal cavity and paranasal
sinuses on the occurrence and maintenance of the inflammatory process in the tonsils.
Patients and research methods. We examined 110 people. 20 people made up the control group
(practically healthy people). With a pathology of the nasal cavity of a non-inflammatory nature: with
vasomotor rhinitis - 30 people, with a curvature of the nasal septum - 20 people; with an inflammatory
pathology: with acute sinusitis - 20 people, with exacerbation of chronic sinusitis - 20 people. All
patients underwent a comprehensive otolaryngological examination, general clinical, immunological,
rhinological research methods were also performed and the functional activity and functional reserve
of the palatine tonsils were determined with statistical processing of the data obtained.
After a complete examination, the patients were divided into groups of patients with chronic

compensated tonsillitis and chronic decompensated tonsillitis, who subsequently underwent
conservative and surgical treatment.
Patients with deviation of the nasal septum, vasomotor rhinitis and chronic tonsillitis underwent
surgical treatment in the volume of septoplasty and laser vasotomy, respectively. Control examination
was carried out 14 days and one year after the operation. Patients with acute sinusitis, exacerbation of
chronic sinusitis and chronic tonsillitis underwent conservative treatment (antibacterial, antihistamines,
vasoconstrictor drugs, maxillary sinus puncture, physiotherapy). Control examination was carried out
after 14 days.
Research results and their discussion. After conducting this study, we can conclude that after
surgical interventions for the curvature of the nasal septum, the functional activity of the tonsils
increases slightly. And with an exacerbation of chronic sinusitis and vasomotor rhinitis, after
undergoing appropriate treatment, the activity of the tonsils increases. In patients with acute sinusitis
and chronic tonsillitis, the functional activity of the tonsils remained practically unchanged.
Since there are no changes in the functional activity of the tonsils after conservative treatment of
acute sinusitis, it is inappropriate to rely on the treatment of only sinusitis with the existing pathology
of the tonsils. And, conversely, with a long-standing chronic process in the nasal cavity and paranasal
sinuses, it is advisable to treat them as the first stage before performing tonsillectomy.
Conclusion. Restoration of normal nasal breathing and sanitation of the chronic focus of infection
in the paranasal sinuses lead to an improvement in the functional activity of the palatine tonsils,
which, in turn, improves the general condition of the body and can be considered one of the ways to
prevent the onset, development and maintenance of chronic inflammation in the palatine tonsils, i.e.
chronic tonsillitis.
