When drafting an argumentative essay, begin by drafting a claim and identi-

fying two to four pieces of evidence to support that claim. This will serve as 

the first draft for the essay. Write a second draft after using the Ranking the 

Evidence strategy (see Example 1.2d ).

Use a 3-2-1 strategy to develop a first draft of a paper. Write out three things
