3. ORAL LANGUAGE ABILITY OF THE B LEVEL CANDIDATE
The B-level candidate is an independent user of English. At this level the topics that
candidates are expected to discuss are related to their immediate environment
(family, friends, work/studies, hobbies/interests) and to cognitively familiar
situations (e.g. leisure activities, environmental issues, personal characteristics etc).
The texts used for the mediation activity (activity 3) are fairly simple linguistically
(not too dense in information and with few complex sentence structures) and
cognitively familiar (taken from authentic sources readily available in their
immediate environment – leaflets, brochures, signs, magazines).
