Christmas

Christmas is celebrated on December 25 as the birthday of Christ, so it is a religious holiday.

Most churches have Christmas Eve services. The services usually begin just before midnight on Christmas Eve and end early Christmas morning,
Many of the Christmas customs do not have anything to do with religion. They are relics of those pagan celebrations.
Christmas is a family holiday. Stores, post offices, banks, and business houses close far the day. Schools and colleges Everybody tries to corns home for Christmas.
People send cards or Christmas greetings to their family and friends. They wish their friends "A Merry Christmas" and "A Happy New Year".
The day before the vacation begins, the schools have Christmas parties and programs. The children sing carols. They recite Christmas poems. At Christmas they have their Christmas-tree, which is decorated with different things.
Since it is customary for relatives and close friends to give presents at Christmas time, the presents are placed under the tree.
The children believe that when they are asleep. Father Christmas (the name given to Santa Claus — saint Nicholas) comes to visit them. He comes down from the North Pole with a big bag of toys. He will bring many toys for all the good children.
Americans put electric Sights in a tree. At night they turn on the lights. Many towns have very large Christmas-trees set-up outdoors in the parks.
The air is filled with the sounds of Christmas songs, the stores are decorated in red and green, the traditional Christmas colours.
Usually the whole family has a big Christmas dinner in the afternoon or evening.
